Dr Lisa M. Najavits is a respected researcher and preeminent clinical psychologist who has conducted therapy for over 30 years. Her chief areas of expertise and research include recovery from trauma, substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, behavioral addictions, and public health approaches to mental health care.
Dr Najavits is Director of Treatment Innovations and an Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, having previously been on the faculty at Harvard Medical School for over 25 years.
Dr Najavits is the author of several influential books, including Finding Your Best Self, Revised Edition: Recovery from Addiction, Trauma, or Both and Seeking safety A treatment Manual for PTSD and Substance Abuse. She has also published over 200 professional research articles. In addition, she and her team have trained therapists on trauma and addiction worldwide.
Dr Najavits is on the advisory board of several leading journals, and she has served as President of the Society of Addiction Psychology of the American Psychological Association. She has also won multiple awards across her career.
